The popularity of cold water swimming in Britain, prompted an open-air lido in the sleepy Dartmoor town of Chagford to contact us about creating a bespoke puzzle to sell in their ‘tea shed’ during the summer months.
Described by the wild swimming books as a river-fed gem on Dartmoor, and the largest outdoor pool in Devon, this tourist attraction sees high foot fall during its eagerly anticipated opening season of May to Sept each year.
They supplied us with a range of photographs of the lido over the years which we turned into a simple montage for a 500 piece puzzle and matching box. We even hand delivered them to the pool and had a quick swim while we were there.
All the boxes were shrink wrapped so the few left over after the first season were stored in the shed and were still in mint condition to sell the following summer. The local Deli liked them so much, they sold them too. The lifeguard there told me she was really pleased to have made jigsaw merchandise for the tourists, because none of the other open-air lidos she had met at a recent swim conference sold them “they only do mugs and tea towels, we are much more creative”.
